News Bits: 3/9/10 Edition

Taiwanese drama Down with Love becomes the ratings leader after super popular drama Autumn’s Concerto ended. It led the ratings chart with 3.27%, sparking Ella Chen to donate NT100,000 to the Child Welfare League Foundation. She made another promise, stating that if ratings reach 5%, she will donate another NT 100,000.  Though new drama P.S. Man starring Lan Cheng Long started off with good ratings, it slipped to second place. Perhaps it was because of the weak writing and the presence of two models-turned-actresses (one of them being Bianca Bai. She was also in Fated to Love You, and wasn’t too bad – although I didn’t like her. Ok, maybe she was bad…) Down with Love stars Ella Chen and Jerry Yan (I don’t particularly like Ella, but the story is still interesting enough for me to keep tuning in.)

Kim Nam Gil of Queen Seon Deok fame has announced that he will enter the army later this year. The 28-year old actor plans to finish up with his series Bad Guy and other projects before leaving in the fall/winter. First up from him is the movie Before, which will be released on April 1, where he plays a husband wrongly convicted of murdering his wife. (Are there hearts out there breaking? I don’t know – he’s not that cute, but then again I am only up to episode 21 of Queen Seon Deok and I don’t know if I’ll have a chance to finish the rest!)

Arashi, the popular J-pop boy band, released their latest single on March 3rd, called “Troublemaker.” (IT IS SO CATCHY!)

Yoon Sang Hyun, Han Hyo Joo, and Lee Seung Gi are all in Japan promoting the release of their dramas. Yoon was there for his dramas Queen of Housewives and Winter Bird, while Han and Lee were there to promote Shining Inheritance. Han’s new drama, Dong Yi is set to premiere next week. (OH NO! Too many dramas at once, once again!)

Jang Geun Suk started his Asia tour the past weekend by visiting Taipei first. He performed and greeted his 2,500 fans at a sold out venue. His tour will last through May and he will visit other Asian countries including China, Hong Kong, and Singapore. (I wish he’d just come to the U.S. – that’s a simple wish, no?)

Boy band ZE:A will be making a cameo appearance in the second episode of Prosecutor Princess. Their roles are non-speaking, but they get down with party girl Ma Hye Ri (or, Kim So Yeon). (All I care about is, Kim So Yeon!)
