5 OTPs I Wish Were Dating In Real Life

I think after “Second Lead Syndrome” it’s pretty common to also suffer from the wish that the onscreen OTP would get together in real life. It’s happened to a couple I so wished would get together, but it didn’t work out very well after 4 years of dating. (That would be Lee Dong Gun and Han Ji Hye, if you’re wondering.) But there can be success stories! (See Inoue Mao and Matsumoto Jun.) I can see why it can be scary to date your co-star because there’s so much pressure put upon you by fans with the expectation that how you were in the movie is how you’ll be in real life. It also makes for a very public relationship. This is true not just for Korean stars, but even in Hollywood, where not every couple will get a happy ending like Brangelina.

So here are my top 5 couples that I wish to see get together!

1. Gong Hyo Jin and Jo In Sung

Ok so this is fresh in my memory, but I have never seen such natural-ness happen between an onscreen couple as I have with Gong Hyo Jin and Jo In Sung in It’s Okay That’s Love. I mean seriously, how are they not together?! I really wished they’d get together after the drama ended, especially since Gong broke up with real-life boyfriend Lee Jin Wook. But then sadly Jo In Sung stated that he’s happily still dating Kim Min Hee.

But seriously – are you telling me those side hugs, forehead kisses, spontaneous lip kisses, and loving looks of pure happiness ARE FAKE!?

Don’t put it all on ‘acting’. In my mind, it was real.

2. Yoon Eun Hye and Joo Ji Hoon

Princess Hours. Need I say more? It was the first drama for both of them, and for such neophytes the two of them were able to convey the passion and the aloofness that comes with teen romances. “I hate him! She’s ugly! Why would I like him/her?! Oh crap… I am in love with him/her. Wait, but what about my first love? No, my heart is set. I’m in love.” And seriously these two looked like they could have dated for a bit after the drama ended. Look no further than the passionate kiss that they share when they part ways for a little bit, and also the very public kiss they share on the streets of Seoul.

Joo Ji Hoon may be taken right now, but he’s not married so there’s hope! Then again, Yoon Eun Hye may no longer be the same person as she was long ago. Times have changed for both of them.

3. Park Shi Hoo and Kim So Yeon

This is really wishful thinking, as I think it’s impossible for these two actors to have gotten together. But Prosecutor Princess really showed just how charming Park Shi Hoo could be as a love-stricken avenging prosecutor. He pulled the same longing, pained look of love on Moon Geun Young and it didn’t have the same effect as when he pined for Kim So Yeon. It just wasn’t the same. And then that KISS. Oh my God my heart still races when thinking of it.

4. Jung Eun Ji and Seo In Gook

It’s great to watch a drama where two people who are best best friends eventually find their way to love. The last drama that was reminiscent of this situation was 9 End 2 Outs, where timing is everything. But what was great about Answer Me 1997 was that the chemistry between Jung and Seo was palpable. They really seemed to be friends in real life, which made them appear more comfortable onscreen. And then Seo was just so good at conveying his one-sided love for her that I almost refuse to believe it was all acting.

And may I add that the kiss scenes were hot?!

5. Yoo In Na and Jin Yi Han

Currently watching My Secret Hotel and I’m getting a serious case of Second Lead Syndrome plus Real Life OTP Syndrome. First off, I don’t usually like Nam Goong Min as a boss who ends up being second lead because his characters tend to be stiff. But he has made Sung Gyeom quite charming, and I almost want to root for him and Sang Hyo (Yoo In Na) to get together because he’s just as awkward as she is. But then you put the brooding Jin Yi Han into the mix and oh my goodness, who am I supposed to pick now?!

Of course, I want to root for the original OTP. The two of them have pretty good chemistry as well, even though right now it’s mostly one-sided because Hae Young is seriously pining for Sang Hyo and she’s doing her best to brush him off. But their scenes during their first wedding in Nevada? Classic beauty, and full of real love.

So that concludes my short list, of which I think more could be added as time goes by. What are some of your favorite OTPs and who would you love to see get together in real life?
